Fearless
In 1982, Bill Dunlop completed a voyage few have ever undertaken alone: a transatlantic crossing. His fiberglass boat was just nine feet wide, and he used only a sextant and the stars to guide him. The treacherous journey garnered him a world record and a parade in his hometown of Mechanic Falls. Just a few years later, he set his sights on a greater challenge: circumnavigating the globe. Sadly, he did not complete the trip and was lost at sea. Mechanic Falls is honoring him by naming the bridge in town after him.
The Sunday Drive is a series of Anvil Falls comics that highlights a Maine community every Sunday. An excerpt from the community's history - or an anecdote about what makes the town unique - is related with a limerick and illustration. Our goal is to highlight every single town and city in the entire state. The first volume will cover all of Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties, and is set to release in area stores later this year.
